Playing any game is hard. Girls’ softball and baseball are no exceptions. Dry spells when you can’t do anything right, getting chewed out by the coach, pushing through an injury, or sitting on the bench and never getting a chance to play. It all takes patience, courage, and humility.
I discovered the story of a girl who fought against obstacle after obstacle to play baseball. She got back up each time she was knocked down—and that was often. I’m writing a novel about that girl. I call it Ollie’s Game for now. I’ll tell the true story and how I dug until I found it in blogs, along with the stories of other ordinary players which will inspire you.
